Johnny (PD5JTB) has been a radio listener since his youth, with around 45 years of experience. As a boy he experimented on the 3-metre band and briefly with television on VHF channel 5 and UHF channel 53. Later he concentrated on listening to HF radio and decoding signals with MultiPSK. Around ten years ago he discovered SSTV on 14.230 MHz, followed by the PI1DFT repeater on 144.8875 MHz. SSTV remains his favourite: he enjoys waiting to see which picture will appear next. Johnny obtained his Novice certificate in September 2021. Since 2023 he has also taken part in JOTA-JOTI as a radio amateur, introducing children to SSTV. They love seeing the pictures arrive and watching radio communication become visible.
